Our Story & About Our Name

Welcome to Bear Root Cottage — a florist and gift shop rooted in grace, grown with care, and inspired by the beauty of connection.

We’re Malinda and Randy, partners in life, in creativity, and in the shared belief that beauty and meaning grow best when they’re tended with intention.

What began as a dream to slow down and create something purposeful has blossomed into a space where artistry, heart, and community come together. Every bouquet and gift we create is part of that vision — a reflection of the simple truth that care still matters and that even the smallest details can carry deep meaning.

About the Bear Root Name

The name Bear Root Cottage is inspired by the mountain plant Oshá (Ligusticum porteri), often called Bear Root — a wild herb that grows high in the Rocky Mountains. Strong, grounding, and deeply aromatic, it’s long been valued for its healing and protective properties.

For generations, Malinda’s family has turned to Bear Root for wellness and care. It’s part of our story — passed down through the women who came before her, used in teas, salves, and simple rituals of healing. Growing up, it was as familiar her our home as lavender or sage might be in yours — a reminder that nature provides what we need when we tend to it in return.

According to legend, bears seek out this root after hibernation — chewing and rubbing it on their fur as they awaken. That instinctive ritual of renewal has always resonated deeply with us: the quiet wisdom of returning to what restores you.

Bear Root Cottage carries that same spirit — rooted in tradition, family, and grace. It’s a place where care is intentional, where healing and beauty meet, and where everything we create is grounded in the belief that connection — like a root — begins deep within.

Rooted in Grace, Grown with Care

Together, we’ve built Bear Root Cottage as a reflection of what we value most: beauty, balance, and belonging. Every bouquet and gift is made by hand, inspired by the rhythms of nature and guided by the stories of the people we serve.

Here, flowers are more than decoration — they’re connection. They speak of love, remembrance, and joy. And just like our own story, they remind us that everything good — whether a business, a bloom, or a life — takes root in grace.
